Five Months Old
Caleb is five months old today and I am cherishing every day with him. This will be our last month of Caleb's milk only diet as we will start on solids next month (that is, mushy solids... why do all the books call it solids when what you feed babies really is not solid at all?). It is both kind of sad (how easy traveling is when all you need to remember to bring is yourself) and exciting (trying out all the different food blends and seeing his little face experience various flavours for the first time). I have been trying to look into which food is the best to start. I know most people go with rice cereal but are there any other recommendations?
I remember Nathan saying that 'every future geologist needs a plaid shirt' when he gave use this gift. Thanks, Nathan and Shana. As you can see, Caleb looks very handsome in it!
Caleb's fifth month was not the only occasion today. We enjoyed cake in honour of Mr. Phong's (our driver) 40th birthday.

Happy 5 months Caleb! Ah, so close to solid foods. So fun and exciting and then so so terribly annoying. Lori I will email you my thoughts, not that Eve is an eater by any stretch of the imagination, hopefully Caleb will be far more adventurous!
YAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR PHONG! WE MISS YOU!!!!!
Happy 5 months old Caleb - that shirt does look on you. So grown up - we will have to have a big party on your 7th month old date. Also Happy 40th Mr. Phong I do notice your gift and it looks like one of your favorites or is that Calebs with the ribbon on it?
Love & Hugs!

Hey Lori,
Stick with the rice cereal as anything else is too hard for Calebs stomsch to digest.
Definitely start with rice cereal. Babies can react to oatmeal and wheat. We had to wait til 9 months to try Damian on oatmeal again as he reacted to it at 7 months.
Wow Caleb is getting so big! What a cutie!
Rice cereal is good to start with because it's least likely to cause allergic reactions...but it apparently causes the most constipation! I have a friend whose daughter was really consipated and her Dr told them to cut out the rice cereal (this is when she was a bit older). I would recommend that soon after trying rice cereal you try prunes...because then at least you know if he is ok with the prunes and you can give him some whenever he needs them :-)

Happy Birthday to Mr. Phong. From Travis and Kailey.
We just started rice cereal (since I started Stewart 10 days early ... he's just skinny) but I actually started Matt on pears (yummy for the tummy but still mild), that was what the Baby Whisperer recommended. Stewart will definitely be getting pears on the 23rd (when he's officially 6 months!).
ok correction, just checked and I did start Matt on rice cereal but pears was the first fruit/veggie.
We have friends over here who gave their little girl anything that they were eating, but mushed it up, and at 4 months (that's when they suggest weening over here) and she'll eat anything now.
