Smiles
I finally am caught up on blog posts and have even added more pictures to Caleb's Picassa Album. Being a mother is much more time consuming than I ever thought - who knew I wouldn't just be able to watch TV all day (lucky for me the TV is not all that good here anyway so I cannot be missing much). But for those soon-to-be-mothers out there and as the rest of the moms know, it also is way more rewarding than I could have ever imagined!
I still have not started a baby book for Caleb so I really should record some of his firsts on the blog so that when I ever happen to get a baby book together, I can refresh my memory!
Caleb has started to smile! I think the first smiles were around January 11th when he had some huge smiles for Grampa Dean. At first, I was sure it was just gas but he is definitely smiling now. I still have not been able to capture the smiles on camera because I am too excited to see him doing it than to go and get the camera. Caleb smiles most in the mornings and in the evenings after bathtime. He was all smiles when his Dad was reading to him last night. At about the same time as the smiles started, Caleb also started making some more noises (which we refer to as 'talking'). He is cooing and saying ahh and will even respond occasionally when we copy his sounds.
Caleb also is following everything with his eyes. He will follow Kevin and I around the room and has discovered his mobile (January 19th).
I am trying to keep Caleb up a bit more during the day in the hopes that he will sleep longer at night but even without a soother and swaddling, he has still fallen fast asleep! I guess I had better have a nap too in preparation for this evening.

Kevin's version of the book, Someday, is much more entertaining - even though the original is lovely, it makes me cry. Last night, Kevin had me laughing.

Is that the beginning of a smile?

That definitely looks like one or at least the start of one!

Caleb is all eyes as he follows the three little bears.

cute photos. Caleb will love Sophie the giraffe when he gets older. Isn't it shocking how much time such a little guy can demand?? I too was in shock. I had planned on taking a course in my free time (funny, it didn't happen..). Enjoy your time when he is young, they grow SO fast. Damian turns 1 on Thursday! and back to work for me.
He's soooooooooooooooo adorable Lori, I love to hear about all his "firsts"!
I agree with Krista he is sooo adorable. I can't believe how big he is getting already and so attentive. So Cute! We will have to skype again soon so we can see Caleb. Oh and hopefully when Kevin is home too. Keep the updates coming. I love reading your blog!
Totally know what you mean about the time thing. I thought being on mat leave meant I could do what I want, when I want. Ha! Caleb's very cute though - sounds like you're a fantastic mom :)
Someone I know once said she was planning on taking violin lessons and painting her whole house while on mat leave. I died laughing inside. Caleb is adorable, I love hearing about his firsts. Baby books are invaluable, you really do forget all this stuff as time goes on, I love being able to look in Eve's book and remember when it happened. I'm glad everything is going well with you guys!
Wait till you have 2 ... I thought I was busy before! Now to post some smile pictures...
He is adorable and I love the smiles. The first 6 months go by very quickly and there is so much to watch them learn to do - like smile, recognize people, find their toes....
First rule for new Moms Lori - sleep when the baby sleeps. It helps keep you healty and sane...
It's good to see how well you are both doing.
