Old Crow

I have now been back in Old Crow for a week. I have been busy looking through their oral history archives and arranging interviews. Hopefully they will go well. Most of it will be in Gwich'in, so I won't know for a while what the elders are saying. All of the people I have been working with have been great, so that has made it a good experience.

This is where I am staying; housing for teachers during the year.

I went blueberry picking on the weekend. I ate more than I picked, but the view from Crow Mountain was amazing (I will put my album up when I get home).

And finally, the pear that travelled the world...

More pictures on the Porcupine River

Back in Old Crow

The trip so far has been great. I arrived in Old Crow via Whitehorse on July 5. We got all the gear ready and headed up river on July 7 (it was about a 5 hour journey). I was working with my supervisor, Dr. Raymond Le Blanc excavating a moss house on the Porcupine River, near Berry Creek. We worked uncovering the collapsed structure until July 21. Working with us were two people from Old Crow.
During the excavation villagers participating in the Cultural Technology Transmission program came to visit and elders were interviewed at the site.
Now back in Old Crow I will be working on my own stuff. I will keep you posted.

Canoeing down the North Saskatchewan

It was a great Sunday for being on the river. There was a slight wind and the temperature was over 20 - perfect.
