Aren't weekends supposed to be for relaxing?
I was so busy this weekend, I didn't even have time to take pictures. Now I remember why summer goes by so quickly. This weekend was filled with weeding, yoga, wedding, 11 hours of fieldwork (drove to Slave Lake and back) and then we had a friend over for dinner on Sunday night. I need a rest from the weekend. But no such luck. This week is filled with reading, birthday celebrating and then off to Calgary this weekend. So probably not many updates. (Not any interesting ones, at least).
But one observation before I get back to work - how is it that I ride into the wind both ways? It sucks. But Jeff did get my side-view mirror on last night, so I got to try it out today. Now I'll know the colour and make of the car that drives by me too close and too fast.

I agree, I wish we could slow the summer down and make it last longer! You will have to tell me what kind of bike mirror you got-I have been thinking it would be a good idea for me too.
The only wind that is "good" on a bike comes in at 90 deg arc centred behind you. That means that the rest of the directions wind can come from [the other 270 degs] ends up slowing you down. If we assume a random distribution of wind vectors then you'll only get a beneficial tailwind 25% of the time.
The other factor is that if you are traveling at 25kph you might even have a 10kph tailwind and not realize it because you create your own wind simply by riding.
I often have to watch flags or road debris to determine the actual wind direction and velocity.
Kristina - what kind of bike and handlebar do you have? You need a mirror that matches that unless you get one that attaches to your glasses or helmet.
